International teaching experience is highly valued across education, business, and the non-profit sector. Many of our graduates progress to senior teaching roles, become Directors of Studies, move into educational management, or transition into related fields such as international development, publishing, or corporate training.

What You Need to Teach Abroad

Requirements vary by country, but most teaching destinations share a common set of expectations.

TEFL/TESOL Certificate

An accredited TEFL or TESOL certificate of at least 120 hours is the industry standard. Most employers and visa authorities require this as a minimum qualification. Our 180-hour and 300-hour courses give you an additional competitive edge in the job market.

Bachelor's Degree

Many countries require a bachelor's degree (in any subject) for work visa purposes. This is particularly common in Asia and the Middle East. Some European and Latin American positions may accept candidates without a degree, though having one broadens your options significantly.

Clean Background Check

Most countries require a clean criminal background check as part of the work visa process. This is standard practice and reflects the responsibility that comes with working in an educational environment. In the UK, this typically means a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Enthusiasm and Adaptability

Beyond formal qualifications, the most successful teachers abroad share a genuine enthusiasm for education and a willingness to adapt to new cultural contexts. Employers value teachers who are open-minded, professional, and committed to their students' progress. Previous teaching experience is welcome but not always required.
